What Foot and Ankle Conditions Can London Stem Cell Centre Help Treat?

There are 26 bones in your foot, 30 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments mobilising and stabilising every movement on your foot. Your ankle is made up of three bones and strong ligaments and tendons.

Any of these structures and the supporting soft tissues can get damaged or injured as a result of trauma or repetitive actions.

Treatment decisions are always dependent on careful and thorough diagnosis of your foot or ankle condition – carried out by our expert orthopaedic consultants.

At London Stem Cell Centre, we offer cellular therapies for foot and ankle problems using your own body’s healing capabilities to help stimulate repair, reduce pain in your ankle or foot, and improve mobility. Contact us to find out more.

Foot and Ankle Conditions We Treat

Foot pain

If you have ongoing pain in any part of your foot, it can have an impact on the way you walk, potentially affecting other joints in your body, including your ankles, knees, hips and even your back and spine. Any damage to the complex structures to your foot can quickly get worse, due to the amount of force put through it on a daily basis. It’s vital to get an expert diagnosis before deciding on the right treatment for you.

Treatment: at London Stem Cell Centre, we use the growth and anti-inflammatory capabilities of your blood plasma, bone marrow and adipose (fat) cells to improve the symptoms and promote healing in a wide range of conditions, including Morton’s Neuroma, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis and toe deformities.

Ankle pain

Pain in your ankle joint can be caused by a number of conditions and injuries, including Achilles tendon tear, ankle sprain, ankle fracture, footballer’s ankle and arthritis.
You should see a specialist if you have ongoing ankle pain, or if you have suffered an ankle injury, to ensure an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.

Treatment: our injection therapy for ankle injuries and conditions uses the growth and healing capabilities of your blood plasma and bone marrow, as well as the anti-inflammatory qualities of adipose (fat) cells or bone marrow. Depending on the condition, it may be combined with physiotherapy and shockwave therapy for optimal recovery.

Achilles tendinopathy

The Achilles tendon attaches your calf muscle to your ankle, and is the strongest tendon in your body. Repetitive actions such as running and jumping without warming up properly can lead to tiny tears and inflammation in the Achilles tendon. This causes pain and muscle weakness, and could lead to an Achilles tendon tear if left untreated.

Treatment: if you have ongoing symptoms after rest and physiotherapy, our team offers a combination of cellular injections such as PRP to help reduce inflammation and help heal the damaged tendon.

Plantar fasciitis

A strong ligament called the plantar fascia from your heel to the ball of your foot, providing cushioning and stability as you walk and run. It can get inflamed as a result of repeated stress, leading to pain in your heel. It can be extremely debilitating.

Treatment: rest and physiotherapy are usually effective treatments. For ongoing symptoms, our injection therapy can help reduce inflammation and help to heal the micro-tears along the ligament.

Tendon pain

The tendons that attach muscles to the bones in your ankle can get injured by, for example, a forceful twisting or a fall from height or through repetitive impact.

Most tendon pain is the result of inflammation caused by tiny tears along a tendon under repeated stress. It may also be the result of a tendon becoming pinched between other structures in the joint (impingement), becoming torn, or pulled out of its anchor point in the bone. It’s important to get a diagnosis for a specialist if you have any pain around your ankle.

Treatment: depending on the causes of your tendon pain, rest and physiotherapy may be the most effective treatment. However, for more severe damage or ongoing instability, the regenerative injections at London Stem Cell Centre can reduce the inflammation and aid with healing.

Foot and ankle arthritis

Arthritis affects the joints in your body, causing the bone to degenerate and resulting in stiffness, pain and reduced mobility. The main joints in your foot and ankle are particularly susceptible to arthritis, as they take some much stress through our lifetimes. Arthritis can be the result of overuse, or through an injury which causes the smooth coating of cartilage on the bones to wear away or tear.

Treatment: more severe cases of arthritis usually require surgery to realign the bones of the joint, to fuse them together or to replace parts of the ankle. However, stem cell therapy, PRP injections and BMAC at London Stem Cell Centre can help stimulate healing in the joints and potentially reduce the need for surgery.
