Stem Cell Therapy for Knee Injuries

Your knee is one of the most commonly injured joints in the body, and as we age, the cumulative stresses on it can often lead to degenerative conditions such as arthritis.

If you have ongoing symptoms of pain, stiffness, lack of mobility or weakness around your knee, our orthopaedic specialists will provide an accurate, comprehensive diagnosis, and recommend a highly effective treatment plan to help get you back to a pain-free, active lifestyle.

For chronic and severe knee conditions that don’t respond to rest and physiotherapy, surgery is often presented as the only option. Not any more…

At London Stem Cell Clinic, we provide a cutting-edge alternative to surgery – using your body’s own healing capabilities to treat knee joint problems.

What Knee Conditions Can London Stem Cell Centre Help Treat?

Knee Osteoarthritis

The bones in your knee joint are coated in a smooth layer of articular cartilage, and cushioned by rubbery, semi-circular pads called the menisci.

Cartilage and menisci can get worn or torn as a result of a traumatic injury or through repetitive actions (such as deep knee bends). Damaged cartilage exposes the rough bone surface below, leading to bone degeneration – or osteoarthritis. This disease can lead to the formation of bone spurs, instability, inflammation and pinching of tissues in the joint. Knee replacement surgery is often considered the only option for severe knee arthritis.

Treatment: our cellular therapies can help reduce pain and improve function of damaged structures in your knee. This includes using the growth and healing capabilities of blood plasma, anti-inflammatory qualities of adipose (fat) cells or bone marrow – all harvested from your own body.

Knee Bursitis

The structures of your knee are cushioned by a gel-filled sac called a bursa. The bursa can get inflamed and swollen as a result of a traumatic injury, wear and tear or arthritis – leading to pain and stiffness in your knee.

Treatment: we offer physiotherapy, steroid injections and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) which engages the healing elements from your own blood to provide pain relief, reduce inflammation, help to heal the damaged tissue in your knee.

Meniscus Tears

The rubbery crescent shaped pads in the middle of your knee provide shock absorption. A meniscus may tear as a result of a direct impact, wrenching or twisting your knee, or as a result of repetitive actions – such as repeatedly twisting or bending your knee. This debilitating injury can cause pain, swelling, instability, a feeling of weakness and a locking sensation in your knee.

Treatment: The meniscus has a low blood supply, so it rarely heals on its own. Using plasma / adipose injections, the healing properties of the platelets in your own blood plasma can reduce the symptoms and help stimulate repair of a torn meniscus.

Traumatic Ligament Injuries

The bones of your knee joint are supported by four strong ligaments – anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial cruciate ligament (MCP) and lateral cruciate ligament (LCL). Any of these can get torn or severely stretched (sprain) as a result of an impact or a wrenching motion. Ruptured knee ligaments lead to feelings of instability, swelling and pain.

Treatment: we offer injection therapies to augment the management of knee ligaments including PRP injections and BMAC to reduce pain and inflammation to help speed up the healing process.
